From August 14 to 16, 2024, ILECO III, in collaboration with the Barangay Power Association (BAPA) and the Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) – Barotac Viejo Campus, successfully conducted a three-day training program in mushroom cultivation. This initiative took place in Barangay Dapdapan, Lemery, and aimed to empower local communities by equipping them with valuable skills in sustainable agriculture. The training was meticulously organized by the NISU – Barotac Viejo Campus Office of the Extension Arms, ensuring that participants received comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in mushroom production.

Leading the training was Dr. Ruby S. Yotoko, the Campus Administrator, accompanied by Dr. Janice B. Sampani, the Director for Extension and to all speakers who shared their knowledge and expertise in this training. Their expertise and guidance were pivotal in fostering a dynamic learning environment. Participants were engaged in various activities that included practical demonstrations, discussions on best practices, and insights into the economic benefits of mushroom cultivation. The event not only enhanced participants’ agricultural skills but also aimed to promote entrepreneurship within the community, ensuring that local residents can potentially generate additional income.

The initiative received strong backing from ILECO III’s leadership, particularly from Atty. James G. Balsomo II, General Manager, along with the Board of Directors, Management, and Staff. Their support underscores the commitment of ILECO III to community development and sustainable practices. This training program marks a significant step towards enhancing local food security and fostering economic resilience in the area, reflecting the partnership’s goal of improving livelihoods through education and practical skill development beyond electricity.
